Travel Pictures - SINGAPORE - 1992 |

The cleanliness and civility of
this capital city is an anomaly in southeast Asia; This island-nation
first came into prominence as a British trading post on the spice route and today has become the world's busiest port. Although Singapore lies at the southernmost end of the Malay Peninsula, the major ethnic group is Chinese. However, unlike mainland China where authorities are attempting to change the crude habits (pushing, littering, spitting) of many of the Chinese (especially in advance of the Olympics), Singapore is nearly free of such behavior. What is the reason? Well, as Aristotle said, "Law is order, and good law is good order" - Singapore |

The orangutans come to this location to have
their picture taken with humans. The photo sessions were entertaining -
especially with female patrons. With each woman that sat on the rock, the intelligent creature slid over on cue and placed its long, hairy arm around her neck. Then, after glancing down at the monstrous, hairy hand extending down her shoulders, each woman emitted an involuntary shriek! Perhaps the women just finished watching the animal show in which an orangutan easily opened a coconut with nothing more than those powerful hands - Singapore Zoological Gardens |

Since I didn't have the
"stomach" to travel to the Indonesian island of Komodo, I made
sure to visit Singapore's modern zoo during the once-weekly feeding of the Komodo dragons - Singapore Zoological Gardens |

Considering that the zookeeper is feeding dragons
and that they are only fed once a week - he must know something about dragons that I don't know! Singapore Zoological Gardens |
